"If music be the food of love, play on"

While serving lunch to older adults at Serving Seniors’ Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center, I noticed a gentleman gracefully weaving between tables to get to his seat in the dining room. His joyful demeanor and beaming smile immediately caught my attention. This man was so happy that he was receiving a hot meal. So much so that he was up dancing by himself next to his seat. I decided to sit at his table and introduce myself.  We had a very interesting discussion about popular music. When one of us would mention an artist such as Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, or the Beatles, he would start to sing one or more of the artist’s songs in a very beautiful baritone voice. I started to sing along and harmonize with him to songs like: Respect, People Get Ready, and All You Need is Love. That experience left me feeling so good. I knew I was in the right place - giving food to people in need, where everyone is thankful for the gift of a nutritious meal that I was helping serve!
