Affordable Housing

Providing access to affordable housing has the greatest positive impact on the quality of life for many low-income seniors in San Diego. While surviving on a small fixed income to pay for rent, food and medication, seniors are at risk of homelessness and too often begin the downward spiral from independence to institutionalization.
Senior Community Centers therefore opened its first affordable housing complex, Potiker Family Senior Residence, in 2003 in San Diego’s East Village and added a second complex, City Heights Square, in 2007 in City Heights.
Senior Community Centers Affordable Housing Highlights:
Housing complexes are located only walking distance to public transportation, pharmacies, churches, supermarkets, shopping centers and restaurants.
Rent is far below the average high cost for housing in San Diego.
Potiker Family Senior Residence offers 200 studio apartments at 280 square feet each. Amenities include fitness rooms, 24 hour security, a vegetable garden, dining room, community room, computer lab, laundry rooms, and a library.
